People found a means of expression through miniature paintings as early as their cave dwelling days. They started out as etches on the walls, but slowly people started using natural dyes to colour their paintings. With the influx of new people and culture in any territory, painting and architecture always imbibed something new.  Paintings were used to capture and frame life as it were for preserving it for historic purposes.
